In order to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and other countries and the development and variety of world civilizations, and encourage people from all walks of life to actively participate in building Confucius Institute. The Confucius Institute Headquarters launched the “Confucius Institute Partnership Project” during the 13th Confucius Institute Conference on the basis of research on the needs of Chinese and foreign companies and social groups. 17 institutions including China Publishing Group and TAL Education Group signed contracts to become partners of Confucius Institute. The Project has both medium and long-term strategic cooperation plans and specific project cooperation programs. Various fields have been covered in this Project such as people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and other countries, joint talent training, internship opportunities and job offering, cultural exchange activities, digital construction of Confucius Institute, and joint laboratories.
Through the “Partnership Project”, Confucius Institute will give play to the global language teaching and cultural exchange network, and work with domestic and foreign partners to create an open and inclusive public platform featuring joint contributionand shared benefits, thus providing better development opportunities for domestic and foreign partners. Meanwhile, by giving full play to respective industry advantages and rich resources, domestic and foreign partners will support and help Hanban and Confucius Institutes around the globe to carry out related work, so as to jointly provide better and convenient Chinese learning services and cultural exchange experience for the people of all countries.
Since its establishment 14 years ago, Confucius Institute has actively expanded its functions while adhering to Chinese teaching. In 2018, it held 44,000 cultural activities covering many fields such as traditional Chinese medicine and art, with an audience of 13 million; it published more than 640 translations and conducted more than 1,600 academic research projects, and organized over 7,000 high-level academic meetings and forums. 49 Confucius Institutes offered “Chinese+” courses covering business, tourism, traditional Chinese medicine and other fields, with more than 12,000 students. 331 Chinese and foreign companies cooperate with Confucius Institute in running schools, greatly promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges as well as economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries.
